The goal of my project was to build an installation that can categorize by means of artificial intelligence, plastic and other waste.

This is then sorted by a robotic arm. For the project, I first researched how I could make a classifier that can recognize waste. Afterwards I studied the effect of plastic and other waste on nature and animals. To be able to integrate this in my installation. I then worked on a design for the installation and made a model on which I based myself for the final product.

When designing, it was important to me that the colors of nature were integrated. Therefore, the secondary color I use is the color of algae in the ocean.

The installation itself was originally intended to be physical, but the quarantine measures prevented me from going to campus to build it. That's why I decided to turn it into a digital experience. The digital experience consists of a website on which a 3D view of the installation can be seen, including a video about the effect of plastic and other waste on nature.

The 3D model can also be seen in augmented reality so that it is also possible for the user to view the installation in detail in order to really see himself next to it. The original intention was clearly to integrate the classifier into the final product. Since this was no longer possible, I made sure that I had a proof of concept where the classifier works on photos and videos. The result of the project is not what I had in mind first, but I tried to ensure that I could deliver a good alternative. First of all, I definitely wanted to make sure that the message was not lost, and I believe this has been successful.
